Testing was undertaken at Castlefarm townland, Co. Kildare, as part of pre-construction works associated with the proposed South Kildare Water-Supply Scheme.

A castle site (SMR 32:28) lies to the north of the proposed reservoir site. In addition, previous investigations undertaken by Clare Mullins (Excavations 1995, No. 164, and Excavations 1998, No. 300, 95E0209) uncovered a number of features of Neolithic date in an area to the north-east of the proposed reservoir site.

Six trenches were excavated by machine within the proposed reservoir site, and a further three along the existing grass margin running east for a distance of 200m from the reservoir site. No features of archaeological interest were uncovered during the investigations. However, a single green-glazed rimsherd of probable medieval date was recovered. This may have originated from the castle site to the north.
