An assessment was carried out at Blackhall, Bodenstown, Co. Kildare, on 31 October and 1 November 2002. The site, currently under pasture, is proposed for the development of three houses, and a fourth area is reserved for future residential use. The site is near a medieval church in Bodenstown (SMR 14:41) and a later medieval castle site in Castlesize (SMR 14:40). Nine trenches were excavated to the natural subsoil, which varied from greyish- to reddish-brown, gravelly clays along the rising ground to yellow/brown sandy clays along the base of the slope. The topsoil averaged 0.45m deep and produced a limited amount of early modern pottery sherds. No archaeological soils or features were revealed.
