The development site is on the northern side of Tralee and borders the zone of archaeological potential of the town, SMR 29:119. Five trenches, measuring on average 20m by 2m, were excavated across the entire area of the site as part of an archaeological assessment. Foundations associated with demolished late 19th-century railway buildings were recorded in one of the trenches. No archaeological stratigraphy or artefacts were recorded in the remainder of the trenches.
A further trench was excavated in the western section of the site when the final section of the mill was demolished. No archaeological stratigraphy was recorded.
