Monitoring was undertaken at the site (1.2ha in extent) of a proposed residential development north of Tralee town. The stratigraphy was uniform throughout the site, consisting of sod (average depth 0.12m) overlying a loose, mid-brown clay with a moderate amount of charcoal inclusions. This layer was 0.3–0.4m deep and overlay a compacted, orange/brown, natural, silty clay with a moderate amount of charcoal inclusions. Occasional 20th-century pottery and glass fragments were recovered from the topsoil. In the east of the site a linear stone-filled drain was revealed cutting into the natural. The drain ran diagonally across the field and was 0.36m wide and 0.24m deep. It was filled with medium-sized angular stones and seems to have functioned as a drainage channel. A fragment of 20th-century pottery was recovered from the fill. No features of archaeological significance were encountered during topsoil-stripping.
