Monitoring took place of the stripping of peat from the extension of the North Kerry Landfill at Muingnaminnane. The site is c. 12km north-east of Tralee in the Stacks Mountains and affords spectacular views to the south.
The site of the extension was in an area of bog that had previously been the subject of a failed attempt at forestry. The development of the site necessitated the removal of the overlying peat, which was up to 3.3m deep. No archaeological features or strata were recorded during the monitoring of this project. The licence was subsequently transferred to Linda Lynch (see No. 824, Excavations 2002).
