Monitoring was undertaken in Gortamullen, north-west of Kenmare, to comply with a planning condition. Planning permission was granted to construct 46 houses. The development site lay partially within the zone of archaeological potential of a holy well, which was in an adjoining field to the east of the site. All ground disturbance associated with the project was monitored. A feature was recorded in the area of the access road adjacent to House Site 10. A new licence, 02E1262, was issued to excavate the feature. A burnt shallow pit was excavated. No other archaeological stratigraphy, features or artefacts were recorded on the site.
