An assessment was carried out before the construction of a housing estate for Kerry County Council at Cappa, Dingle, Co. Kerry. Subsequent limited monitoring was carried out in June 2001 (Excavations 2001, No. 561), which proved negative. Monitoring of topsoil removal was carried out in 2002.
Six irregularly shaped areas of burning were uncovered during monitoring. These consisted of charcoal-enriched deposits, some of which showed signs of having been burnt in situ. They varied in size from 0.9m by 0.5m to a maximum of 2.45m by 1.34m. The nature of the features was unclear, as much interference to the site had occurred in the past. No radiocarbon dates have been received as yet.
