The main elements of the scheme are the construction of a wastewater treatment plant in Dromatoor townland to the west of Ballyheigue village, the construction of two pumping stations in Buncurrig townland to the south of Ballyheigue, and the excavation of trenches to lay sewage pipes, outfall pipes etc. in the townlands of Ballyheigue, Buncurrig, Dirtane, Dromatoor and Dromgower. Monitoring of all ground-disturbance works associated with the scheme was undertaken. Archaeological material was encountered and subsequently excavated by the writer in the townland of Dromatoor (Excavations 2001, No. 563, 01E1084) and by Simon Ó Faoláin in Dirtane (No. 787, Excavations 2002, 02E0677).
