Monitoring of a proposed development took place at Raheen, Athenry, near the site of a road. The stratigraphy encountered consisted of a thin layer of topsoil overlying a grey, gravelly, natural subsoil, which in turn overlay bedrock. In the south-east of the site a large area of loose stone under topsoil was uncovered, similar to that already noted during pre-development testing (see No. 754, Excavations 2002). The deposit appeared to be the remnants of an excavated ridge of sand/gravel. Nothing of archaeological significance was uncovered.
