Testing was undertaken at a development site at Oranhill, Oranmore, Co. Galway, on 4 September 2002. A possible house or hut site is noted here in the SMR. The site was first noted in the early 1950s, although the files of the Archaeological Survey indicate that there may have been some confusion about the exact location of the site, as the original description exactly matches that of a monument to the south of the development area (SMR 95:109). The area of the site was subjected to mechanical clearance during the 1970s, when field walls were removed and ground surfaces reduced, in some areas down to the subsoil.
There were no surface traces of the monument, and no subsurface traces were uncovered during testing.
