Monitoring of the excavation of material to an average depth of 1–1.2m was undertaken at a proposed development site at Castlepark Road, Galway. The site measured c. 70m by 65m and had been previously disturbed to accommodate site offices and a machinery store. The stratigraphy consisted of a brown/orange, sticky clay that overlay a natural, grey, gravel layer with frequent small and medium-sized stones. Throughout the site large areas of disturbance were identified, with inclusions of modern metal, plastic, wire and building debris found. Occasional large boulders were also uncovered. No features or artefacts of archaeological significance were found.
