Testing was undertaken at a proposed development site at Gort Mhuire, Main Street, Saggart, on 6 July 2002. The site is within the zone of archaeological potential of Saggart, a settlement that reputedly dates to the 7th century. The village subsequently became a medieval borough after the Anglo-Norman invasions.

Two trenches were mechanically excavated on the site. The testing revealed topsoil, 0.45m deep, overlying an undisturbed, stony clay subsoil. No features or artefacts of archaeological interest were uncovered.
