Testing was undertaken at a proposed development site at Garter’s Lane, Saggart, on 9 February 2002. The site is within the zone of archaeological potential of Saggart, in the environs of St Mosacra’s church and associated graveyard. This site is reputed to date to the 7th century. Furthermore, the village subsequently became a medieval borough after the Anglo-Norman invasions.
Three trenches were mechanically excavated on the site. The testing revealed topsoil, 0.45m deep, overlying an undisturbed, stony clay subsoil. No features or artefacts of archaeological interest were uncovered.
