Testing was undertaken in Roganstown in north County Dublin. The proposed development includes the construction of a golf-course and a hotel. The site is c. 90m south of Roganstown House. In the cartographic assessment contained in the cultural heritage report (dated 12 December 2000) a laneway was identified on Rocque’s map; this did not feature on any subsequent maps examined, nor could it be identified on the ground.
A single trench, 50m long, was mechanically excavated at the approximate location of the laneway. Two sherds of medieval pottery, a piece of red brick and a piece of animal bone were recovered from the topsoil in this trench. No archaeological features were identified. No remnants of the laneway shown on Rocque’s map were uncovered.
