Monitoring of topsoil removal at Robswalls in January and February 2002 revealed a small deposit of burnt stone and charcoal cut by a modern field drain. Excavation suggested that the spread had originally measured at least c. 4m by 3m and was less than 0.1m deep. An early modern land drain had bisected the spread of material, and ploughing had also removed much of the original deposit. Some tiny traces of burnt bone were recovered during the excavation.
