Monitoring took place along the route of the Bord Gáis Éireann Pipeline to the West (Section 6: Gormanston to Ballough) in February and March 2002. Monitoring covered an area from the coastal landfall for the interconnector to the above-ground installation at Ballough in County Dublin. During topsoil-stripping 22 sites of archaeological potential were recorded. These included two Bronze Age habitation sites, an 18th-/19th-century farmhouse, a possible kiln/bowl furnace, a possible ring-ditch, three pits, five fulachta fiadh, two unassociated troughs, five kilns, field systems and some isolated hearths and spreads. Only two features were discounted as non-antiquities.
