The site is in an internal courtyard, measuring 10.8m east–west by 8.8m, in the Anatomy House, at the eastern end of Trinity College. The original location of the Anatomy House was at the western end of the college (in Fellows’ Square), but it was moved in 1825 to the present site.
During monitoring, the excavation of foundation trenches revealed the remains of a large pit containing dumps of human remains along the southern side of the site, against the limestone boundary wall. This pit originally measured 4.4m east–west by at least 1m (extending beyond the northern section) and was over 1m deep. It contained an assortment of human bones, most of which were long bones, many showing signs of having been sawn. This suggests that these are anatomical remains, directly related to the Anatomy House.
