The site comprised an extension to Brooks Hotel, constructed in 1997. No archaeological layers were revealed in the monitoring of the works involved in the construction of the hotel in 1986, except possible construction trenching running parallel to Drury Street and filled with sterile, redeposited boulder clays. The excavation of the extension in April 2002 yielded some archaeological evidence owing to the survival of a soft garden soil in the yard area. This was to the rear of a 19th-century building demolished to make way for the development. The soils were associated with 17th-century pottery and therefore appeared to reflect the existence of a dwelling at the south end of Drury Street before 1800.
