The north side of the carriageway of the existing Cork Street was excavated at Emerald Terrace in August and September 2002, as Site 4 of the Cork Street Realignment. The south side of the carriageway had been previously excavated (Excavations 1993, No. 64).
The medieval watercourses uncovered under the south side did not survive on the north side owing to later disturbance. The 17th-century stone-lined watercourse was, however, intact in the area and retained part of its covering arch. The front walls of the late 17th-century houses previously excavated were revealed, and another 10,000 sherds of pottery from the large-scale 18th-century dump were recovered. This brings the total of pottery sherds retrieved from the dump to over 85,000.
