Testing took place on 16 April 2002. Four trenches were excavated running parallel to the existing building in the areas of undisturbed ground that were currently available. These gave a good representation of the surviving stratigraphy at the site. The few deposits present contained material of 19th- and 20th-century date and can be interpreted as dumps of garden soils and occupational material, which may include refuse from 2 Coliemore Road itself. Excavation of the trenches failed to produce any material of archaeological significance.
