An assessment was carried out on the site of a proposed residential development at 1–2a Castle Street, Dalkey, Co. Dublin. The site was to the rear of existing apartments in an area that had formerly been a garden. Two trenches were excavated, oriented east–west, and both revealed topsoil and post-medieval garden soil. A culvert was cut into this garden soil in the eastern extent of one of the trenches. This was exposed, recorded and left in situ as the development would not impinge on it. Natural gravel was revealed beneath the garden soil in both trenches, and no other archaeological features were exposed on the site.
