Testing was undertaken at the site of a proposed development at the southern end of Orchard Lane, Clondalkin, Co. Dublin, on 28 October 2002. The site is within the zone of archaeological potential assigned to Clondalkin by the Office of Public Works, Urban Archaeological Survey. Settlement at Clondalkin originated in the 7th century, when a monastery dedicated to St Mochua (also known as Cronan) was established. It is postulated that the curving line of Orchard Lane may preserve the outline of the eastern half of the monastic enclosure. After the Anglo-Norman invasions, a borough was established at Clondalkin. Nine trenches were excavated. No features or finds of archaeological interest were uncovered.
