Monitoring of Section 1A of the Pipeline to the West continued from Section 6 without any break. The pipeline originated from Ballough AGI (above-ground installation) and continued west to Kinnegad. During topsoil-stripping 33 sites of archaeological potential were recorded. These included Bronze Age enclosures, cereal-drying kilns, pits, fulachta fiadh, a flint-knapping floor, an early historic cemetery, a circular enclosure with burials, an early historic industrial site, a smithing site and an iron-smelting site. Most of sites were archaeological in origin, although a few were discounted as non-antiquities.
