The proposed development site is on the northern side of The Square, Comber, an area of immense historical interest, where most of the surrounding buildings have been listed at some stage; indeed, No. 4 had only recently been delisted. Before demolition, a photographic survey was carried out on the building, and special attention was paid to its fabric to determine whether early building materials had been used. None was found. A series of trenches was opened across the site, but nothing of archaeological significance was uncovered.
