Monitoring is being carried out at Magheraroarty Pier, Magheraroarty, Co. Donegal. Work began in March 2002 and continued for several months. Work has since been suspended and is scheduled to continue in 2003. The proposed development entails the extension and refurbishment of the existing pier at Magheraroarty.
Before construction, an intertidal survey was carried out by ADS Ltd. No features of archaeological significance were noted. The site of SMR 24:2, a cashel, is c. 1.5km from the study area, on nearby Boyle’s Island.
Nothing of archaeological significance has been noted during monitoring to date.
