Testing was carried out as part of a condition of planning permission for the construction of five houses and a Puraflo treatment plant in the townland of Figart, slightly to the south of Dunfanaghy. Ten test-trenches were excavated by machine on 29 July 2002. The development is close to a court tomb, recorded as having been moved in 1842.
Stratigraphy was variable across the site, ranging from a thin topsoil over natural boulder clay at the top of the field to a considerable thickness of peat at the lower end. Three linear features running down the slope were uncovered, all interpreted as drains. Nothing of archaeological significance was recorded.
