Testing involving the excavation of four trenches was carried out at the site of a proposed dwelling-house at Clonmass, Dunfanaghy, Co. Donegal. The site, adjacent to a cromlech, is on a hillside with a thin cover of soil over natural bedrock. The site, marked ‘Cromlech’ on the OS revision of 1900, is described in The archaeological inventory of County Donegal as appearing ‘to be a natural boulder’.
Nothing of archaeological significance was uncovered in any of the trenches. The area was on a steep and rocky slope with a thin covering of topsoil over natural bedrock.
