Test-trenching was carried out at the site of the proposed development of a dwelling-house, garage and septic tank on 30 November 2002. The site is close to the Twomile Stone archaeological complex, described by Davies (1942) as a ‘prehistoric community’. Monuments in the complex include a field system, associated cashels and hut sites, and a standing stone. The development site, at the south-eastern part of the constraint area related to the archaeological complex, did not appear to impinge directly or visually on any archaeological sites. Five test-trenches were excavated to undisturbed natural levels, at a maximum depth of 1.5m. Underlying sod and topsoil was yellow boulder clay and limestone bedrock.
