Testing of a potential archaeological feature took place on the line of the sewerage scheme in the town of Ardara, Co. Donegal. Bushes and scrub were cleared from three areas in the field that had been identified as potential archaeological features. The largest feature was a low mound close to the Owentocker River, which was abutted by a field boundary to the south. The mound is most likely natural.
A group of what appeared to be stones to the north of the mound had been interpreted as the remains of a possible wall, but clearance in the area showed the stones to be natural outcroppings of limestone bedrock.
A large mound on the eastern bank of the Owentocker River was stripped of its overgrowth of gorse and briars. The mound is composed of estuarine gravel and is clearly the result of dredging in the river and of no archaeological significance.
