The wind-farm site is on Altahullion Hill between Dungiven to the south-east and Limavady to the north-east. It measures c. 2km north-east/south-west by 1.2km and lies between the 230m and 276m contours. The area is covered by blanket bog, and the vegetation is a mixture of rough pasture and shrubs. Monitoring of groundworks took place between 25 November 2002 and 6 March 2003. New access roads, foundation platforms, crane pads for twenty wind turbines and trenches for underground power cables were mechanically excavated. Nothing of archaeological significance was uncovered. In certain areas, especially to the north-west side of the site, the peat contained numerous tree roots and parts of tree trunks. The depth of peat varied considerably across the site, from less than 0.5m to as much as 2.5m, because of both natural variation and recent commercial peat-stripping activity.
