An assessment was carried out in three areas within the route of the N71 Skibbereen Relief Road, on behalf of the National Roads Authority. Two of the areas were assessed by Malachy Conway (Excavations 2001, No. 233); however, owing to the restriction of access to Area 1 at the time, further work was carried out here on 1 May 2002. Nine test-trenches were excavated, none of which revealed archaeological features or deposits of any significance.
