Test-trenches were excavated on the footprint of the proposed development of a house at Shronebeha, Banteer. A ‘Battlefield (1647)’ is marked on the 1937 third-edition OS map in the area of the proposed development. The battle belonged to the second phase of the civil war (1643–7) between the Irish Catholic confederates and the predominantly Protestant, Irish royalist forces. Trenches were excavated by machine on the footprint of the foundations, driveway and percolation area. No archaeological stratigraphy or artefacts were recorded.
