Monitoring of the alteration, extension and conversion to three apartments of 19th-century residential/ commercial premises in the centre of Rosscarbery was carried out in September–October 2002.
Stratigraphy in the foundation trenches for the extensions to the rear of the existing buildings consisted of c. 0.2m of 19th-/20th-century surfaces and loose fill/dumped material over natural, light grey, gritty, sandy clay that extended to the excavated depth of the trenches. Stratigraphy in the service trenches was similar. No archaeological material was recorded, and natural clay was present directly beneath 19th-century levels.
