Monitoring was conducted of topsoil-stripping and silt removal during groundworks associated with the construction of the Youghal Bypass at Rincrew and Clashadunna West, Co. Cork. No archaeological features were exposed or identified during monitoring works at the existing Rincrew Bridge. Removal of the silt from the Tourig River was also closely monitored, but no finds were recovered and no archaeological features were identified. Some tree stumps were removed, but they proved to be natural in origin and did not display any toolmarks or evidence of working. A metal-detector was used where possible, under licence 02R070, to search for metal finds from the extracted materials, but none were identified or recovered.

Topsoil-stripping at the roundabout at Clashadunna West revealed a single oval pit that on excavation proved to be a trough. This was excavated under licence 02E0682 (see No. 265, Excavations 2002).
