Friars Street is in the north-west section of the walled town of Kinsale. The natural terrain slopes steeply from north to south down to the harbour. The northern boundary of the development site is formed by a standing section of the town wall. This part of the walled town is known as the Upper Town, and the site was essentially the back garden plots of street-fronting medieval and post-medieval houses. The proposed development is for a number of houses. No archaeological features or finds were uncovered during the test excavation.
