As part of Phase 2 of the Cork Main Drainage Scheme a submarine pipeline trench was dredged in a north–south orientation across the River Lee at Tivoli. Monitoring of the dredging operation took place in two 12-hour shifts. The archaeologists monitored from the wheelhouse of the dredger, as this afforded the best view of the hopper of the barge while loading. The wheelhouse had a direct communications link with the backhoe operator, to which the archaeologists had free access as and when required. Nothing of archaeological significance was noted.
