The excavation of a test-trench was undertaken on the footprint of the foundations of four apartments. The development site is on the corner of Barrack Street and Step Lane, within the zone of archaeological potential of Cork, SMR 74:34, but outside and to the south of the walled medieval city. The development site measured 9.5m north-east/south-west by 12.5m. The rubble layers and basal course of a limestone wall recorded in the trench were the remains of the demolished buildings that formerly stood on the site. No other archaeological stratigraphy, features or artefacts were recorded.
