An oval trough and field drain were noted during monitoring by Ian Russell of topsoil-stripping at the site of a proposed roundabout at Clashadunna West on the Youghal Bypass, Co. Cork (No. 351, Excavations 2002, 02E0477).
The trough measured 1.68m by 1.35m by 0.4m deep and had been filled with a dark grey/black loam containing occasional inclusions of charcoal and frequent inclusions of angular, heat-shattered stone. On excavation, four post-holes were exposed in the corners of the trough, suggesting that it may have been lined with wooden planks that were robbed out before backfilling.
A field drain, 0.44m wide, was exposed to the north of the site. It was oriented east–west and had been constructed from two courses of angular stone roofed with flat stone and slate slabs. A body sherd of late medieval pottery was recovered from the topsoil to the north.
