Carriganass Castle is a tower-house sited on the banks of the Ouvane River, c. 9km north-east of Bantry in County Cork. The eastern end of the tower-house has completely collapsed, but the western, northern and part of the southern walls stand to full height. The tower-house stands within a largely intact rectangular bawn with an ‘angle-bastion’ flanking tower at each corner. Conservation work is being carried out on the site under the auspices of a local community group.
Monitoring of the digging of a wall foundation trench to the west of the tower-house was carried out in August 2002. As an existing wall in the same area had been previously demolished and removed, no archaeological deposits survived.
