During monitoring of topsoil-stripping carried out as part of the N22 Ballincollig Bypass Scheme two cut features and two small deposits were uncovered c. 0.45m below the sod. The two features were initially thought to be subcircular pits filled with a charcoal-stained silty clay, but on excavation it was revealed that both were natural features, i.e. swallow-holes.
This site lies over 100m east of Barnagore 1 (Excavations 2001, No. 125, 01E0651), which was excavated by Donald Murphy and where c. 250 of these swallow-/sink-holes were encountered.
