Monitoring was carried out during the construction of a house near a motte at Ballylopin, Charleville. All groundworks were carried out by machine, using a flat-toothed bucket. An area measuring c. 20m by 20m was cleared of topsoil, which was 0.1m deep and composed of a mid-grey/brown, silty clay loam. The topsoil was removed to the level of the natural parent material, a dark yellow/brown, silty boulder clay. No archaeological features or finds were uncovered during the monitoring.
