This site was examined as part of the Bord Gáis Éireann Pipeline to the West project. Two burnt mounds and two troughs were investigated. The mounds were c. 14m apart and were sited near a small rectified stream at the base of a gentle incline.
The western mound measured 12.8m (north–south) by 12.1m and was 0.6m high. At least two construction phases were recognised. A relatively thick (0.36m) deposit of black clay and charcoal containing c. 10% burnt stone lay directly above the natural geological deposits. This was overlain by a mottled grey/yellow/brown stony deposit. Immediately above these two deposits a relatively thick deposit of blackened clay, small burnt angular stones and a small amount of charcoal was recorded. This deposit constituted the larger part of the mound.
The eastern burnt mound measured 7.4m (north–south) by 4.1m and was 0.24m high. A single phase of activity was recognised. This was a relatively thin (0.24m) deposit of black silty clay, small burnt angular stone and a small amount of charcoal. Two possible troughs were associated with this mound.
The northern trough was oval, measuring 1.6m (north-east/south-west) by 1.06m. The cut had straight, almost vertical sides leading abruptly to a flat, level base at a depth of 0.5m. A single fill was noted within the cut and was very similar to the mound material.
The southern trough was oval, measuring 0.8m (north-west/south-east) by 0.54m. The cut had slightly concave sides sloping gently to a flat base, 0.29m deep. Two fills were recognised. The primary fill had a maximum thickness of 0.21m and was very similar to the mound material. The secondary, upper trough fill was 0.09m thick and was a mid-/dark grey silt containing small, angular stones and a very small amount of charcoal.
A small deposit of burnt stone was found 0.5m to the north of the eastern mound. This deposit was sub-oval, with maximum dimensions of 3m by 3.18m, and was 0.16m high.
