This site was examined as part of the Bord Gáis Éireann Pipeline to the West project. A spread of burnt stone was identified during monitoring. The feature measured 3.1m by 2.6m and lay on dry ground above a bog to the east. Inspection of the site suggested that the deposit represented a spread of burnt stone. This deposit was similar to spreads of lithic material excavated in the immediate vicinity as part of this project. These nearby burnt spreads were probably related to fulachta fiadh.
The site was clearly taped, marked and reported to the construction contractors, following agreed protocols. However, a haul road for construction traffic was built across the site. This action was not authorised, and tape and marker pegs were destroyed. The Bord Gáis Éireann project archaeologist took this matter up with the main contractor on behalf of Bord Gáis Éireann and Dúchas.
Later examination of the buried site revealed that no archaeological deposits had survived.
