This site was examined as part of the Bord Gáis Éireann Pipeline to the West project. A shallow oval pit or scoop was excavated. The feature measured 3.3m (north-west/south-east) by 1.4m. The sides of the scoop sloped gently down to a flat base, 0.15m deep. The single fill was a dark brown, fine silt with significant charcoal inclusions, particularly at the base. In situ burning was indicated by oxidisation of the immediately surrounding natural geology. The feature represented a fire-pit on which old topsoil had been deposited to extinguish the fire. Given the high charcoal content of the scoop, the feature may be related to post-medieval metalworking. There are similarities between this feature and that excavated in Ballycorick townland (No. 84, Excavations 2002, 02E1011).
