A pre-planning test excavation was carried out near a stone enclosure. Two derelict buildings are on the site of the proposed development. The enclosure was described by Westropp (1908) as an earthwork but is in fact surrounded by a stone wall. The area of the proposed house was sterile of archaeological features, and the subsurface deposits showed that the soil cover was light and over limestone bedrock.
