The site was exposed during monitoring of topsoil-stripping along Section 3 of the Bord Gáis Éireann Pipeline to the West, from Goatisland, Co. Limerick, to Gort, Co. Galway, c. 300m north-east of the road that joins Barefield village to Spancil Hill, Co. Clare. It lay on a small raised area of dry land on the western side of a valley that has a covering of c. 1m of peat over the base. The site was initially identified as a sub-oval burnt spread, measuring 27m north– south by 4.3m. Further cleaning revealed the spread to have a maximum depth of 0.1m. No cut features were identified through excavation, leading to the conclusion that the site represents displaced material presumably from the pot-boiler site 46.5m to the south (No. 127, Excavations 2002, 02E1469).
