This site was examined as part of Bord Gáis Éireann’s Pipeline to the West. A single oval pit was excavated, measuring 1.9m (east–west) by 1.4m and 0.28m deep. The pit sides were steep, and the base was concave. The single pit fill was a fine silt that darkened from the surface down (from mid-brown to black). The lowest 0.08m of the deposit was almost pure charcoal. The oxidisation of the immediately surrounding natural geology suggested in situ burning.
A bulk sample of the pit fill was taken and will be sieved to recover charcoal for species identification and possibly to give a radiocarbon date.
