A research excavation began in July at a complex of prehistoric monuments. The first phase of excavation is concentrating on a large cairn. This season’s work recovered a cremated burial. Analysis of the cremation revealed that it is of an adult. The burial was situated between two ‘layers’ of the cairn material. One complete blue glass bead and three fragments of other blue glass beads were recovered. The three fragments represent at least two other individual beads. A piece of clear quartz was also found, a type that is not native to this area. It is hoped that a date for the burial will be forthcoming.
