Outline planning permission is being sought to construct a single dwelling-house and associated services at Ballyogan townland, Co. Clare. The proposed development is immediately north of a cashel. Pre-development testing was undertaken. Seven trenches were mechanically excavated, with six running north-west/south-east and one north-north-west/south-south-east. None was excavated within 15m of the monument. However, previous testing at the site had been undertaken within 5–10m of the monument, in the proposed percolation area. These trenches had not been backfilled and allowed the opportunity to examine the stratigraphy, which did not indicate any features or deposits of archaeological significance.
Occasional 20th-century pottery fragments were recovered from the trenches, but no artefacts or features of archaeological significance were found.
