Testing was carried out here as part of the N18 Road Improvements, Dromoland to Crusheen, including the Ennis Bypass. This site was identified as the location of a destroyed fulacht fiadh, which appears to be marked to the west of the proposed road. Trenching was carried out at the stretch of the road closest to the possible site. Three trenches were opened by machine in this marshy area. Trenches 1 and 3 measured 15m north–south by 1.5m. A depth of 1.7m of peat was encountered, sitting on impervious grey clay. Trench 2 measured 9m east–west and had a similar depth of peat. No features of archaeological merit were found.
